February 27-March 2

Spelling: This week we will continue with the spelling list from last week. We will have our test tomorrow!  On the practice test, many students misspelled tyrannosaurus. It is  worth 8 points on the test! Please help your child to practice it, and all of their words tonight!

Reading:

We will be continuing Mister Bones   this week. Our test on it will be tomorrow as well. Please help read the story with your child tonight.

For the rest of this week and next, we will  be talking about Dr. Seuss! His birthday is Friday, so we will be having a fun week   filled with green eggs and ham, and many other fun Dr. Seuss things!

Don’t forget to send in your Dr. Seuss  books with your name in the  back!

Math:

We are continuing to work with money! The kids could use any and all practice possible! We have learned the values of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters,  and how to make 25 cents using coins    other than a quarter.

Please encourage your child to count money as often as possible!

Book Fair: We will be going to the book fair on Wednesday! Please send money with your  child if you would like for them to buy a book/books!

AR Goal: Friday is the last day to meet AR Goals. Please help your child to read and be ready to test in the mornings!

End of October

October has been a great month!  We started the month with our Animal Projects, then enjoyed a nice long fall break, and have been busy ever since we got back to school.  Last week was a great Just Say No Red Ribbon Week.  Thank you to my room mothers for doing an outstanding job on decorating our door.  Of course, the kids had a hand in it too

.  It looks amazing.  It was great to see so much participation last week from all of the students.  We ended Friday with our Halloween parade and party!  It was a great day and once again, thank you to my room mothers and all other parents who helped out with the party.  The kids had a great time and I was so impressed with how well-behaved everyone was all day long.  I know it is not easy to focus on school work when there is such excitement in the air!  This week is the start of November.  Don’t forget, all field trip money and permission slips are due this Wednesday.  Everyone is looking forward to our trip to see Junie B. Jones on November 15.  Looking ahead, November will be a packed month, so take a close look at the November calendar which is coming home on Tuesday.  I will be starting my maternity leave at the end of the month and will be sending home more details in the coming weeks about the smooth transition we are hoping to have!

Amazing Animal Projects

This past Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday the kids shared their amazing animal tri-aramas.  It was fun to learn about different animals, including giraffes, squirrels, robins, pandas, pigs, and many more!  Everyone did so well getting up in front of the class and sharing what they had researched and answering questions by the other students.  I hope this was an enjoyable experience for the entire family.  I know the kids love to share how they worked with mom, dad, and even siblings on these projects!!!

This Week

Hello everyone!  There are a few things I wanted to mention and give an update about the Warrior Walk.  We our continuing in our reading series.  One more week and we will be done with our first unit in reading!!  Hopefully you have had time to look over the animal tri-arama projects that are due next week on Wed, Thurs, and Fri.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  This Friday is the Warrior Walk.  First grade will be walking at 8:45.  If you would like to walk with us or cheer on the kids, please meet us outside on the track at the black flag.  I will be sending home the Warrior Walk t-shirts on Wednesday.  Please have your child wear it to school on Friday.  I will not be here on Friday, for the walk.  I will be traveling to Chicago for a family baby shower.  This was planned months ago and I was so sad when I found out it was during the walk.  But, I know the kids will do great and I can’t wait to hear about it when I return on Monday!

A Few Updates

I am hoping everyone is enjoying their long weekend.  I am looking forward to seeing everyone this afternoon and evening at conferences.  I just wanted to update and let everyone know about a few things.  1.  There will be NO spelling words or test this week.  Due to 3 days of school, there is not enough time to complete an entire week unit.  We will resume our regular schedule on Monday, Sept. 12.  We will have math homework and hopefully this will give you a chance to help your child read their library book if you have not had time.  2.  In my last online post I mentioned the first grade field trip.  As of right now, that trip is on hold.  This is due to budget concerns in the county.  We have been told to wait on making any arrangements for field trips.  If we get word to change this, we are still hoping to visit the farm in October.  As always, keep in touch with any concerns.  I am happy to help in any way I can.

Happy Monday Morning!!

Hello everyone!

We had another fabulous week and I can feel we are starting to get into a routine!!  I wanted to remind every one of a few things.  Please make sure that when your child has a book to read for homework that you return both the book and the bookmark.  I use the books every year and need to keep them.  Also, great job completing and returning math homework.  We will be finishing up the first topic in math today and taking the test tomorrow.  I have been very impressed with how well the kids are doing!  It is a great way to start off the year.  One thing I forgot to mention at parent night is to please go over papers sent home daily.  It is important for not only you, but your child, to see the comments I write.  I will often pull a student aside to show them certain things, but it is also great feedback if you discuss their papers with them.  I forgot to send a reminder home on Friday about snack.  Thank you again to all of the parents who generously donated snacks for the first two weeks of school!!!  Starting today, your child will need to bring his/her own snack if they would like one.

FYI:  We have scheduled our fall field trip.  It will be October 21 at a farm.  I do not know the details, but the farm is located by Station Camp H.S.  More details will be coming home in a few weeks.

Have a WONDERFUL week!!!!

First Week

We had a great first week of school.  The class has done great at taking their red folders home and returning them the next day.  Thank you parents for looking through the folders and returning anything that is important.  We had a busy week learning first grade procedures and doing work.  This coming week will be a week of many new things.  On Monday we will be starting our reading series (which includes going to reading stations), spelling words, and our new math series.  It is going to be a busy week and a learning process for all of us.   I am excited to see all of the parents Monday night at 7:00.  I will be going over most of the curriculum we will be studying this year, plus going over several classroom policies.  I also plan to go over the Accelerated Reading program, which I plan to start in the next two weeks.  All students have tested on the Star Reading test, which will give them a reading level.  They will start checking out library books in these levels and taking A.R. tests in class.

Keep an eye out on Monday for our first reading homeowork and your child’s spelling words for the week!!!  See you Monday night!

The Start of a New Year!!!

Welcome to our class website!!!  Today was a great registration day and I was so glad to meet everyone.  I am looking forward to an outstanding year.  A reminder to return all forms that needed to be filled out or signed by Tuesday, August 9.  If you have any questions about anything, please let me know.  Also, don’t forget Monday to wear your favorite color to school!  If you cannot remember each color day, it will be written on a calendar in your child’s take home folder.  Make sure to check that out Monday afternoon.  I will be using this website to update you on things happening in class and to share some of the great learning experiences that we will have this year.  I will talk more about this at Parent Night on Aug. 15.  I hope to see everyone there!

Field Trip

Last week I sent home the information about the first grade field trip.  On the form it said please return by April 20.  I would LOVE to have all permission slips and money turned in sooner than that.  If you would please send everything in by the end of the this week.

Today we start our last Unit in reading!  It is super exciting!!!  This is always a sign that school is getting closer to being done.  We will read a new story and have spelling words the next six weeks.  It is very important to not stop working with your child at home.   I know as the weather gets nicer and more and more kids have ball games, etc., it gets harder.
